Iron & Wine Print
"Iron & Wine" takes inspiration from Red Beach in Santorini, Greece. The beach’s deep red tones take on their rich hues from the iron-rich volcanic rock that forges the island itself. Santorini was the first stop on my honeymoon this last August. As such I wanted to depict this place as the entry point into my rich new life, like I was stepping out from inside of a dim building into a blindingly beautiful scene before me, hence the silhouetted structure that frames the beach. It is an ode to the role that this and other landscapes on this trip would play as liaisons into this bright new chapter of my life. I also reference one of my favorite bands, Iron and Wine, in the title as I find many of the harmonic and lyrical ballads the band creates to be exceedingly romantic and playful. The title also lends a nod to the amount of fine wine I anticipated imbibing while on this trip. My actual wine intake did not fall short of this anticipated quantity.
The original was painted with oil, acrylic, and gouache on wood panel
